چکیده

Nitrogen is added to porous carbon, in both the bulk network as heteroatoms and coatedon the surface of the pores, to increase the capacitance of electrodes for supercapacitor applications. Surface modification increases the amount of nitrogen by four times when compared to unmodified carbon that only contains nitrogen in the bulk. Pyrolysis of themodified carbon at a lower temperature also retains up to three times more nitrogen than high temperature pyrolysis. The surface modification dramatically improves the wetting behavior of the porous carbon and produces a capacitance that is nearly twice that of the unmodified carbon through a combination of double-layer formation and pseudocapacitive reactions.

Nitrogen-doped amorphous carbon-silicon core-shell structures for high-power supercapacitor electrodes

We report successful deposition of nitrogen-doped amorphous carbon films to realize high-power core-shell supercapacitor electrodes. A catalyst-free method is proposed to deposit large-area stable, highly conformal and highly conductive nitrogen-doped amorphous carbon (a-C:N) films by means of a direct-current plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition technique (DC-PECVD). This approach exploit...

Nitrogenated porous carbon electrodes for supercapacitors

Nitrogenated porous carbon materials, made by coating the pore surface with nitrogen functional groups from the pyrolysis of hexamine, were characterized and tested for supercapacitor applications. From X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the nitrogen content of the nitrogenated carbon sample was found to be 14 wt%. Electrochemical properties from potentiostatic and galvanostatic measurements, an...

Carbon black-intercalated reduced graphene oxide electrode with graphene oxide separator for high-performance supercapacitor

We present a general study on a high performance supercapacitor based on intercalated reduced graphene oxide with carbon black nanoparticles. Graphene oxide sheets were synthesized by oxidation and exfoliation of natural graphite and were reduced using hydroiodic acid in the presence of carbon black nanoparticles. Graphene paper was fabricated by one-step procedure via simultaneous reducing and...

Lithographically Defined Three-dimensional Pore-patterned Carbon with Nitrogen Doping for High-Performance Ultrathin Supercapacitor Applications

Supercapacitors that exhibit long cycle lives and fast charge/discharge rates are a promising energy-storage technology for next-generation mobile or wearable electronic systems. A great challenge facing the fabrication of ultrathin supercapacitor components, specifically their porous electrodes, is whether such components can be integrated with the fabrication of electronic devices, i.e., semi...
